One of the perks of being in a city like Chicago is the rush of the arts scene – where artists, art dealers, scenesters, and millionaire buyers all collide. All walks of life will be descending into the Windy City for the fifth EXPO CHICAGO, The International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art, taking place Sept 22-25 at Navy Pier. As an oasis for artists, fashionistas, and foremost, our fascinating friends – we’re prepped and ready for quite the spectacle.

If you’re not sure how to immerse yourself into everything that is happening the week of September 19th, let us be the first to tell you.

When: September 22 – 25

Where:  Outside VHC (to view the performance on the porte cochére) and The Commons Club

Who is Millie Brown?  Most recognized for her performance as a non-traditional method of painting, the artist uses her body as a tool to create artifacts that are remnants of her performance. She has collaborated with innovative talents such as Nick Knight and Lady Gaga.

What to expect? Millie will bring a unique and immersive floor-to-floor experience to the hotel on Thursday, September 22, from 5-9pm. Check out her performance with Pablo Dylan (Bob Dylan’s grandson) both below and above our awning at the front entrance at 5pm. You can expect a multi-sensory viewing experience, during which both sound and color rise in intensity over the course of EXPO CHICAGO’s kick off evening.

We are hosting a Glow in the Dark dinner on Friday and Saturday (and a brunch on Sunday) curated by Millie and created by Chef Rebecca LaMalfa. Tickets are available here. Don’t forget to wear white.

Stop by the Art Critic’s Forum
When: Friday, September 23 at 2pm

Where: Navy Pier

What to expect: Investigating the topic of transparency vs. opacity, this event is open to anyone with a ticket to the fair. While Millie Brown will provide her audience with a visceral look into a contemporary artist’s practice, the Art Critics Forum will highlight significant issues in contemporary arts journalism, prompting attendees to freshly consider the well-liked Instagram posts of Millie’s performance just the night before!
EXPO CHICAGO aerialArt critics will gather with EXPO CHICAGO guests to dive into a discussion about the Internet and social media’s permeation into our lives, questioning the degree to which they need to consume our relationships and ways of doing work. Pick the brains of writers who are driving today’s most cutting-edge art publications.

Cheers to the art-loving, champagne-swilling masses who will take over Navy Pier.
