Treasure Island Music Festival: Dropping Anchor in Oakland this October Music & Entertainment By Virgin Hotels @virginhotelssf Share Share On Facebook Share On Twitter Share on Google+ Share on LinkedIn Treasure Island Music Festival: Dropping Anchor in Oakland this October. If you’ve been to Treasure Island Music Festival before than you know the feeling: you’re watching one of your favorite bands at golden hour as the sun sets behind the San Francisco skyline across the glittering bay and you’re wondering how you’ve never quite seen your city from this perspective. The light is perfect, the sounds are ethereal, and you’re drinking your favorite local beer. The Noispop gang (the festival’s organizers along with Another Planet Entertainment) refer to this moment as the “sunset spot,” and this year headliners like Tame Impala and A$AP Rocky as well as Lord Huron, Santigold, Courtney Barnett, and others will take the stage and deliver on this exact moment once again. Since 2007, Treasure Island Music Festival has made its reputation as truly the Bay Area local’s choice festival: two stages, no overlapping sets (so you’re never pushing your way from one stage to the next) and local food vendors exist peacefully on an island in the middle of the bay, with Alcatraz and the Bay Bridge filling out the frame. Due to some pretty extensive development on the island, this year’s festival will take place at West Oakland’s Middle Harbor Shoreline Park – about as close to Treasure Island as you can get, but with those cool emblematic Oakland shipping cranes and the very same San Francisco Bay sunset. See you there.
