Chef Matt McCallister Will Open a Restaurant at the Design District’s Brand New Virgin Hotels

Called the Kitchen, expect French dishes at the chef’s latest venture

When the ritzy new Virgin Hotels Dallas makes its debut in the Dallas Design District later this year, the new hotel will be home to a restaurant from much-lauded Dallas chef Matt McCallister.

Dubbed the Kitchen, the restaurant will be a part of the Commons Club, which will also house a cocktail bar, according to a press release. Renderings of the space indicate that it will be a lush and luxe all-day dining destination, with plenty of plants providing pops of green, midcentury pendant lamps, tamboured wood walls, and gold accents designed by Joel Mozersky Design.

As far as the food is concerned, diners can expect McCallister’s obsessively local ethos to continue over to the Kitchen, where he’ll source ingredients from nearby farmers. He’s tapped chef Nick Walker, formerly of CBD Provisions and Americano to lead the kitchen, which will serve a menu of dishes influenced heavily by French cuisine, though no full list of dishes has been made available just yet.

For diners who apparently live under a rock and have not heard the gospel of Matt McCallister, the chef first rose to prominence in 2012 after opening FT33, the funky, farm-to-table Design District restaurant that earned McCallister multiple James Beard Award nominations and designation as one of the country’s best new chefs. FT33 has since closed its doors, along with his second restaurant Filament. McCallister has since opened Homewood in Oak Lawn, which has earned praise from critics and diners alike.

No opening date for the Kitchen has been set just yet, but expect it to arrive sometime around December. Stay tuned for more details.
