EL VICENÇ DE LA MAR, MALLORCA, SPAIN – April 2022

The latest boutique hotel to open in Mallorca is the sister property to El Llorenç, the design hotel found in the capital city of Palma. The new opening, El Vicenç De La Mar, by contrast, is found on the north side of the island, in Calla Sant Vicenç, an area which grew in popularity in the 1950s and 1960s due to its untouched beaches and secret coves. Putting it back on the map is the new boutique bolthole, which has 35 rooms, including four suites and one penthouse, many with private terraces, Jacuzzis and swimming pools.

A central feature is the rooftop terrace with a swimming pool, cocktail bar and restaurant, offering views across to the Sierra Tramuntana Mountains. Chef Santi Taura heads up the two in-house restaurants with his take on traditional island recipes and seasonal products.

As well as a library, there’s also a small Mediterranean-styled cinema, spa and a host of activities to immerse guests in the natural beauty found on the doorstep.

HOTEL LA PALMA, CAPRI,  ITALY – April 2022

Set to be one of the standout openings of 2022 is the Oetker Collection’s Hotel La Palma – carved out of Capri’s very first hotel, which was built in 1822. It will also be the noted luxury hospitality brand’s first property in Italy, with the company working alongside owners, the Reuben Brothers, to offer a 50 room hotel to encapsulate a ‘dolce vita  lifestyle for guests.

Overseeing the interior design is London-based Francis Sultana, renowned in the world of high-end design, in collaboration with Francesco Delogu of Delogu Architects. Sultana is one of the world’s foremost interior and furniture designers, working across both residential and commercial projects. His atelier studio is based in St James's, London, in the same building as David Gill Gallery, where he is also artistic director. Sultana is known for his often large-scale visual art, sculpture and installation pieces. He has also visited Capri for decades and cites a great affinity for the island, its people and culture. Once known as the ‘Artists’ Hotel’, due to the fact that many guests used to be artists, poets, painters and musicians, the hotel will build on this heritage with a contemporary take on this ‘golden’ era.

Meanwhile, chef Gennaro Esposito will oversee the culinary offering at restaurant Gennaro’s. Having run his own two Michelin-starred restaurant, Torre del Saracino, for the last 23 years, guests can expect his signature of unpretentious, authentic Italian cuisine. He will also oversee Bianca, the rooftop restaurant and bar with views over the sea and Capri Village. Located just steps from the famous Piazzetta, the hotel will also offer its own beach club, a newly built pool deck, a spa and high-fashion boutiques
