Notes: Virgin Hotels Nashville names chef

Ryan Lachaine

Virgin Hotels Nashville has announced that Ryan Lachaine will serve as executive chef at Commons Club, the hotel’s first-floor restaurant, bar and lounge set to open this fall.

According to a release, this will be the first position for Lachaine (pictured) outside his home city of Houston, where he is co-owner and executive chef at restaurant Riel. Commons Club will join Virgin Hotels Nashville’s The Pool Club, a rooftop restaurant and bar, and cafe Funny Library Coffee Shop, which are currently open.

“Nashville has a dynamic culinary scene,” Lachaine said in the release. “Since opening last month, Virgin Hotels Nashville has become a destination for locals and visitors to enjoy. I’m thrilled to join the team to develop another unique concept that not only adds to the hotel experience but also the city’s broader restaurant scene.”

Tailor Nashville to reopen in Germantown

South Asian American restaurant Tailor Nashville in Germantown will reopen Thursday with reservations now available.

According to a release, Tailor (closed due to coronavirus concerns) will resume operations by offering one seating at 7 p.m. per night, Thursdays through Sundays, with reservations capped at 50 percent capacity to ensure proper social distancing. The opening will see the launch of its summer 2020 menu.

"In many ways, I’m excited for the opportunity to have just one seating per night as it allows us to really slow down and enjoy the experience alongside our guests," Vivek Surti, Tailor owner, said in the release. "We’ve always prided ourselves with the personal attention we can give each guest and every dish we serve, and we see this as an opportunity to lean in even more to that service-centered philosophy.”

Tailor, which is located at 1300 Third Ave. N., is a partner of the LEE Initiative’s Restaurant Reboot Relief Program, which committed $1 million to purchasing food from sustainable farmers in 16 regions.

Tailor, City House and Henrietta Red were chosen as the program’s partner restaurants in Nashville, and Tailor’s summer menu will feature duck through Wedge Oak Farm and vegetables from Farmer Dave’s and Pig + Leaf Farm as part of the initiative.

Surti, a first-generation American of Indian descent, is a James Beard Foundation 2020 semifinalist for Best Chef in the Southeast. Read more here.
