GENERAL

What time is check-in/check-out?

Check-in is from 3:00pm and checkout is at 12:00pm.

Do I need a photo ID at check-in?

A passport is required from all non-UK Resident checking into the hotel. A valid government issued photo ID is required at the time of check-in for UK Residents.

Can I request a late check-out?

This is subject to availability. Late checkout is charged at an additional £20 per hour.

Know Members are eligible for a complimentary later check out of 1pm, subject to availability.

Can I request early check-in?

Our usual check-in time is available from 3pm. If you’re an eager beaver, you can request early check-in, which is subject to availability. Contact us ahead of your stay to let us know what time to expect you so we can make our teammates aware.

Do you have a business centre?

There is no business centre on site but please do speak with our concierge team and we will do our best to assist with any requests.

Do I have to pay for wifi?

Highspeed WiFi is complimentary throughout the hotel.

Do you have air conditioning?

There is air conditioning throughout the hotel and in all guest bedrooms.

Can I smoke in my room?

As part of local regulations we do not allow smoking internally and this applies to guest bedrooms too.

Do you have a fitness centre? What are the opening hours?

We do have a fitness centre on-site and this is open 24 hours for residents of the hotel only.

Do you have a pool?

Unfortunately we don’t have a swimming pool in the hotel.

Is there a fridge in the rooms?

Yes, all rooms come with a fully stocked red SMEG fridge, priced at street value.

RESERVATIONS

What is the minimum age requirement to check-in?

18 years old.

What age do kids stay for free?

Children two and under.

Do you have twin rooms?

Yes, we do have Chamber Twin bedrooms available – please contact [email protected] or book direct on the website.

Do you have accessible rooms?

We have 11 accessible Chamber King bedrooms in the hotel – please contact [email protected] or book direct on the website.

Do you have connecting rooms?

Some rooms can be grouped together, you’ll enter from the corridor through a common door into a cozy private entry way which then leads to the door of each individual room. Please contact [email protected] to check availability for these rooms.

What types of rooms are suitable for families?

  • Our Family King Suite, featuring one king bed and a separate bedroom with bunk beds and a sofa bed for up to three children under 17 to share.
  • Our Two-Bedroom Suite, featuring our signature suite, Sir Richard's Flat, with neighbouring Grand Chamber King with an interlinked corridor to enhance your VIP experience.
  • Our Family Chamber featuring two neighbouring Chamber King rooms (with a twin bed option in one room).

Can I add a roll away bed/crib/ dog bed? Is there a charge?

Yes! A crib / dog bed can be added to any chamber & suite at no additional cost.  For some suites, we can add a rollaway bed additional charge of 50£ per night, suitable for guests 17 and under.

Can I upgrade my room?

Yes, depending on availability.  Contact [email protected] with your confirmation number and we can send you the available options. Upgrades are subject to additional fees which is advised at time of your request.

Can I arrange chocolates / prosecco to my room?

Yes, this can be arranged with the reservations team,  [email protected]  prior to your stay or alternatively with the team at Junction upon your arrival and throughout your stay at an additional charge.

Does my booking include breakfast?

It depends on which rate you’ve chosen. To find out if breakfast is included in your stay, contact [email protected] with your confirmation number to ask one of our teammates.

Do you have feather free bedding for allergies?

All rooms have feather free bedding. Feather pillows remain in the wardrobe, of feather bedding is the guest's preference, this is available on request. For more information, please contact [email protected] with your confirmation number. 

Which rooms have a castle view?

You can practice your royal wave from our Chamber King Castle View or Castle View King Suite

Can you add an extra bed or baby cot?

Baby cots can be requested for all chambers and suites for children aged 2 and under at no additional cost. Extra beds can be requested for most suites for children 3 – 17 for an additional £50 per night (paid on arrival).

Which type of rooms have a bathtub?

We only have a bathtub available in Sir Richards Flat. All other room types have walk in rainfall showers.

Can I amend my booking that I have booked on a third-party website?

Any amendments to reservations made through a third-party website should rd be amended with the third-party website.

Concierge

Is there somewhere I can store my bags prior to check in and after checkout?

Yes, the Concierge and Bell Team will happily store your luggage prior to check in and after check out so that you can continue to explore all that Edinburgh has to offer at ease.

TRANSPORT, VALET & PARKING

How can I get to the hotel from the airport?

From the airport

  • A taxi to the hotel is approximately 25 minutes and, on average, costs £25 each way.
  • Edinburgh Trams stops right outside the airport. Hop off at Princes Street and it’s a short walk up a big hill to the hotel.
  • The Airlink 100 bus connects the airport to Waverly Bridge.. From there it’s a 12-minute walk to the hotel.

From the train station (Edinburgh Waverley)

  • 15-minute walk uphill via North Bridge and the Royal Mile.
  • You can get a taxi from the taxi rank outside. This should take less than 10 minutes and cost £10, approximately.

Do you have valet parking? Where can I park?

Yes! Valet Parking is available for £45 per night. Reservations are required so please contact us at [email protected] to add this onto your stay.

The hotel’s main entrance on Victoria Street can be accessed from George IV Bridge. When using a Sat Nav/GPS, we recommend searching for the National Library of Scotland to ensure you are directed to the correct side of Victoria Street to arrive by car. Please note due to road closure, the hotel cannot be accessed by car from Grassmarket.

Note: Edinburgh's Low Emission Zone is effective from the 1st of June 2024. This may affect guests travelling to the hotel via personal/ rental vehicle. Vehicles that don't meet the emission standards may be fined if driving through the low emission zone.

Do you have on-site parking?

Want to self-park? We have partnered with NCP Castle Terrace for a discounted rate for overnight parking. The self-parking options are a 10 – 15-minute walk from the hotel so if you’d like to drop your bags off with us first our Concierge & Bell team are available to assist at the main entrance.

Where is breakfast served?

Breakfast is served in Eve daily from 7am – 10:30am.

Do you have a resident's bar?

Commons Club Bar is open for residents and non-residents until 1am.

Do you offer afternoon tea?

Yes, served in The Oculus Lounge every Saturday & Sunday from 12-3pm. Afternoon Tea can be booked via email on [email protected]

Do you have room service? If so, what are the hours?

Yes, we offer room service.

Breakfast: 7am - 11am
All Day: 12pm - 9pm
Night Menu: 9pm - 6am

PETS

Are you a pet friendly hotel? Are there restrictions for weight, height or types?

We are! Your best friend will be given the warmest welcome, sure to get their tail wagging!  Expect comfy pet-menities as cozy as your own.

A maximum of two pets per chamber. No breed or size restrictions as long as your wee pal fits into the lift they are welcome. We just kindly ask that you keep them on a leash while in public spaces.

Can pets dine in the food and beverage outlets?

Your pets are welcome in Eve and Commons Club restaurant but not in the Commons Club Kitchen due to health and safety concerns around our open kitchen element.

How many events spaces are there?

Greyfriars Hall – Capacity 150 pax I 2131ft2 I A former medieval church providing a picturesque backdrop for classy corporate dinners, beautiful banquet, regal receptions or majestic milestones.

The Study – Capacity 16 pax I 237 ft2 I A brilliantly intimate space for meeting with colleagues or socialising amongst peers.

The Founders – Capacity 30 pax I 420ft I Complimenting the main room at Greyfriars Hall. Perfect for large break meetings within our church setting.

The Scarlet Lounge – Capacity 15 I Perfect for large break meetings within our church setting. Plush and luxurious. The perfect get together destination for pre-event drinks and all social gatherings.

The Commons Club Kitchen – Capacity 10 I Showcasing the best of Scottish larder, Chef de Cuisine embarks guests on a culinary journey in collaboration with globally renowned guest chefs.
