GENERAL
What time is check-in/check-out at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh?
Virgin Hotels Edinburgh guests can check-in from 3:00pm and check-out is by 12:00pm. To check availability and pricing for early check-in or late check-out, please contact us at info.edinburgh@virginhotels.com.
Do I need a photo ID at check-in?
A passport is required from all non-UK Resident checking into the hotel. A valid government issued photo ID is required at the time of check-in for UK Residents.
Does Virgin Hotels Edinburgh have a business centre?
There is no business centre at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh but please do speak with our concierge team and we will do our best to assist with any requests.
Do I have to pay for Wi-Fi?
Highspeed Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout the hotel.
Do you have air conditioning?
There is air conditioning throughout the hotel and in all guest bedrooms.
Can I smoke in my room?
As part of local regulations we do not allow smoking internally and this applies to guest bedrooms too.
Do you have a gym? What are the opening hours?
Yes, there is a gym on-site and this is open 24 hours for residents of the hotel only.
Is there a spa at the hotel?
Unfortunately, there is no spa at the Virgin Hotels Edinburgh.
Do you have a pool?
Unfortunately, we don’t have a swimming pool in the hotel.
Is there a fridge in the rooms?
Yes, all rooms at the Virgin Hotels Edinburgh come with a fully stocked red SMEG fridge, priced at street value.
Is the hotel reception open 24 hours?
Yes, Virgin Hotels Edinburgh's reception is staffed around the clock.
Do I need an ETA to travel to the UK?
Yes, guests from certain countries are now required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before entering the UK. For more information and to apply, visit the official UK government website: www.gov.uk/eta.
What is the Edinburgh Visitor Levy?
Starting 24th July 2026, a 5% Visitor Levy (before VAT) will apply to all bookings made from 1st October 2025 onwards. This levy is a city-wide charge and will be included in your final bill, inclusive of all taxes.

VISITOR LEVY
How much is the levy?
This is a 5% (before VAT) charge on the accommodation cost for the first consecutive nights of your stay and is included in your final bill inclusive of VAT.
Who does this apply to?
Applies to all stays in hotels, B&Bs, hostels, self-catering apartments, campsites, and more within the City of Edinburgh.
Are there any caps or restrictions?
There is a 5-night cap – the levy is only charged for the first 5 consecutive nights of your stay.
When does the levy come into effect?
Start date – applies to stays from 24 July 2026 onwards. Please note that and guests that check-in on 23 July will also be eligible to pay the levy on 24 July.
Will I see a detailed breakdown of the levy costs as part of my total bill?
Yes, rates displayed on our website will always be inclusive of all taxes including the levy for applicable dates. A detailed breakdown of the Levy will be provided on check-out and is detailed on your invoice/bill.
When will I pay for my levy?
- The levy is paid at the time your booking is paid for:
if you book a prepaid, non-refundable rate, the levy is taken at the time of booking - if you choose a flexible rate which is paid closer to arrival or at arrival, you will pay the levy at the time of settling your stay cost
- if you book through a third party you will pay the levy at the time you pay the third party (however you would then miss out on our great book direct perks, so you will always get the best deal direct)
Will I receive a refund for the levy when I cancel my booking?
Yes.

RESERVATIONS
What is the minimum age requirement to check-in?
Guests must be at least 18 years old to check-in at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh.
What age do kids stay for free?
Children two and under can stay for free at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh.
Do you have connecting rooms?
Some rooms can be grouped together, you’ll enter from the corridor through a common door into a cosy private entry way which then leads to the door of each individual room. Please contact stay.edinburgh@virginhotels.com to check availability for these rooms.
Is the hotel Family Friendly?
Yes, we love welcoming families at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh. Our Family King Suite includes a king bed, separate room with bunk beds, and a sofa bed for up to three children under 17. For extra space, our Two-Bedroom Suite connects Sir Richard’s Flat to a Grand Chamber King. We also offer Family Chambers with two adjoining rooms, one with a twin bed option, perfect for flexible family stays.
Can I add a roll away bed/baby crib/dog bed? Is there a charge?
Yes! A baby crib/dog bed can be added to any chamber & suite at no additional cost. For some suites, we can add a rollaway bed additional charge of £50 per night, suitable for guests 17 and under.
Can I upgrade my room?
Yes, depending on availability. Contact stay.edinburgh@virginhotels.com with your confirmation number and we can send you the available options. Upgrades are subject to additional fees which is advised at time of your request.
Can I arrange chocolates / prosecco to my room?
Yes, this can be arranged with the reservations team, reservations.edinburgh@virginhotels.com prior to your stay or alternatively with the team at Junction upon your arrival and throughout your stay at an additional charge.
Does my booking include breakfast?
It depends if you've chosen a rate which includes breakfast during your stay. To find out if breakfast is included in your stay, contact stay.edinburgh@virginhotels.com with your confirmation number to ask one of our teammates.
Do you have feather free bedding for allergies?
All rooms have feather free bedding. Feather pillows remain in the wardrobe, if feather bedding is your preference, this is available on request. For more information, please contact stay.edinburgh@virginhotels.com with your confirmation number.
Which type of rooms have a bathtub?
We only have a bathtub available in Sir Richards Flat. All other room types have walk in rainfall showers.
Concierge
Is there somewhere I can store my bags prior to check in and after checkout?
Yes, the Concierge and Bell Team will happily store your luggage prior to check in and after check out so that you can continue to explore all that Edinburgh has to offer at ease. For longer storage, this is available only if you’re returning as a guest.
Can I book city tours through the hotel?
Yes, concierge can help organise tours for many sights in Edinburgh and Scotland.
TRANSPORT, VALET & PARKING
Is valet parking available at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh?
Yes! Valet Parking is available for £45 per night. Reservations are required so please contact us at reservations.edinburgh@virginhotels.com to add this onto your stay.
The hotel’s main entrance on Victoria Street can be accessed from George IV Bridge. When using a Sat Nav/GPS, we recommend searching for the National Library of Scotland to ensure you are directed to the correct side of Victoria Street to arrive by car. Please note due to road closure, the hotel cannot be accessed by car from Grassmarket.
*Please note due to hotel policy we do not offer valet to left handed or oversized vehicles.
Note: Edinburgh's Low Emission Zone is effective from the 1st of June 2024. This may affect guests travelling to the hotel via personal/ rental vehicle. Vehicles that don't meet the emission standards may be fined if driving through the low emission zone.

Are all types of vehicles eligible for valet parking?
Due to insurance limitations, our valet service is not available for people carrier vehicles (e.g., minibuses, large MPVs) or vehicles with left-hand steering. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
Do you have on-site parking?
We have partnered with NCP Castle Terrace for a discounted rate for overnight parking. The self-parking options are a 10 – 15-minute walk from the hotel so if you’d like to drop your bags off with us first our Concierge & Bell team are available to assist at the main entrance.

Where is breakfast served?
Breakfast is served daily in Eve from 7am – 10:30am.
Do you have a happy hour?
Our daily Spirit Hour is between 4.30pm-5.30pm which is exclusive for our Know Members. This is held in our Scarlet Lounge. Sign-up to THE KNOW.
Do you offer afternoon tea?
Yes! Afternoon Tea is served daily from 12 noon - 3pm, and you can find our more, and book, here.
Do you have room service? If so, what are the hours?
Yes, we offer room service.
Breakfast: 6am - 10:30am
All Day: 12pm - 9:30pm
Night Menu: 9:30pm - 5am
The night menu can be found on the In Room Dining feature on the TV screen in your chamber
PETS
Are you a dog-friendly hotel?
We are! Your best friend will be given the warmest welcome, sure to get their tail wagging! Expect comfy pet-menities as cosy as your own.
All our hotel rooms welcome dogs and allow a maximum of two per chamber. No breed or size restrictions as long as your wee pal fits into the lift they are welcome. Learn more on our dedicated pet-friendly page.
Can pets dine in the food and beverage outlets?
Your pets are welcome in Eve and Commons Club restaurant but not in the Commons Club Kitchen due to health and safety concerns around our open kitchen element.

We don’t have a bar on the rooftop - it’s a private space reserved exclusively for hotel guests. Although this space can be hired for private events. Contact the team at sales.edinburgh@virginhotels.com for more detals.
